To be considered an R-BIND ligand, the molecule should follow these guidelines:
-
have activity in cell culture and/or animal models;
-
not be an aminoglycoside, peptide, oligonucleotide, or known nucleic acid intercalator;
-
have evidence of binding to the target in vitro;
-
have a molecular weight < 2,000 Da;
-
target RNA through only non-covalent interactions;
-
target a non-ribosomal RNA; and
-
be highlighted by the author in the manuscript text as being particularly potent or having a notable activity cut-off.
Exceptions to individual criteria are made on a case-by-case basis.
